My oldest grandson had a birthday this week and he wanted a particular Lego kit from the Creator series. Did you know there was a Creator series? I didn't either. There are a bunch of series, the most popular of which currently appears to be the Star Wars series.
There's the Bionicle Series, the City Series, the Batman Series, the Technico Series and many more. They're all competing for shelf space in Walmart, Target, Toys-R-Us and other retailers.
The Creator Series is apparently not as popular right now as Star Wars, Batman and others. So I went to 5 Walmarts, 4 Targets and a Toys-R-Us before locating the particular Creator Series kit 4953 that Brandon had his heart set on. I found it at the 4th Target.
Now a smart man would have let his fingers do the walking. Or asked Brandon's mother, who knew where it was all the time. But a smart man wouldn't have gotten as much exercise as I did or have learned as much about Legos as I did in a couple of days.
Exercise, you ask? It's the Christmas season and Walmart store planners have wisely relocated their toy sections to the back of the store, so parents will have to walk by all kinds of other items to catch their eye before arriving at the toy section. And because it's the Christmas season, the only parking spaces are way out near the street.
It was worth it all to see Brandon's eyes light up and hear his comment, "This the one I've been wanting!" I got him a couple of models, too, one a car, one an airplane. He's at the age I started building models, so maybe he'll like it. We'll see.
